The FUNDC2 (FUN14 domain-containing 2) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the FUNDC2 protein, a mitochondrial outer membrane protein implicated in cellular stress responses and mitochondrial quality control. First identified in 2008. FUNDC2 contains a conserved FUN14 domain and is structurally related to FUNDC1. a known regulator of hypoxia-induced mitophagy. Unlike FUNDC1. however, FUNDC2’s precise molecular mechanisms remain less defined. Studies suggest it may interact with mitochondrial proteins like MFN2 and participate in mitochondrial dynamics, apoptosis, or metabolic regulation.

Research links FUNDC2 to cancer progression, particularly in lung, colorectal, and hepatocellular carcinomas, where its expression levels correlate with patient prognosis. Antibodies against FUNDC2 (polyclonal or monoclonal, often raised in rabbits or mice) enable applications such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry, aiding in exploring its localization, expression patterns, and interactions.

Despite its potential role in mitochondrial stress adaptation and disease, FUNDC2 remains understudied compared to other mitochondrial proteins. Discrepancies in reported functions highlight the need for further validation using specific antibodies. Current studies focus on clarifying its contributions to mitochondrial homeostasis, cancer biology, and therapeutic targeting. The FUNDC2 antibody thus serves as a critical reagent for unraveling its biological significance and translational relevance.
