The MTHFD2L (methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2-like) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the MTHFD2L protein, a mitochondrial enzyme involved in one-carbon metabolism. This metabolic pathway is critical for nucleotide synthesis, methylation reactions, and cellular redox balance. MTHFD2L shares homology with MTHFD2. another mitochondrial folate enzyme, but exhibits distinct functional roles. While MTHFD2 is linked to NADPH production and proliferating cells, MTHFD2L is proposed to function in NAD-dependent reactions, though its precise biological mechanisms remain under investigation.

Research highlights MTHFD2L's potential role in cancer, as its expression is upregulated in certain tumors, including gliomas and lung cancers, correlating with poor prognosis. This makes it a candidate biomarker or therapeutic target.
