CYFIP1 (Cytoplasmic FMR1-Interacting Protein 1) is a key component of the WAVE regulatory complex (WRC), which regulates actin cytoskeleton dynamics and neuronal morphogenesis. It interacts with Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein (FMRP), linking synaptic protein synthesis to structural plasticity. CYFIP1 plays dual roles: within the WRC, it promotes actin polymerization to shape dendritic spines; when bound to FMRP, it suppresses translation of specific mRNAs under basal conditions. Dysregulation of CYFIP1 is implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders like Fragile X syndrome (FXS), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and intellectual disability, as well as cancers and epilepsy.

CYFIP1 antibodies are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and molecular interactions. These antibodies are widely used in techniques such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation to investigate CYFIP1's role in neuronal development, synaptic function, and disease mechanisms. Commercial CYFIP1 antibodies are typically raised against specific epitopes (e.g., human N-terminal regions) and validated for cross-reactivity in multiple species. Recent studies also utilize these antibodies to explore CYFIP1's involvement in mTOR signaling and its potential as a therapeutic target. Proper validation via knockout controls remains critical due to homology with CYFIP2.
