The UTP3 antibody is a tool used to study the UTP3 protein, a component of the small subunit (SSU) processome, a large ribonucleoprotein complex critical for ribosomal RNA (rRNA) biogenesis. UTP3. also known as NOL14 or C1orf107. plays a role in the early stages of 18S rRNA processing within the nucleolus, facilitating the cleavage and modification of precursor rRNA (pre-rRNA) to form mature ribosomal subunits. As part of the UTP (U Three Protein) complex, it contributes to ribosome assembly, linking ribosome synthesis to cellular growth and proliferation.

Antibodies targeting UTP3 are utilized in research to investigate its expression, localization, and interactions, employing techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation. These studies are essential for understanding ribosomopathies—diseases caused by defective ribosome biogenesis—and cancers where dysregulated rRNA synthesis is common. For example, UTP3 overexpression has been implicated in tumorigenesis, making it a potential biomarker or therapeutic target.

The UTP3 antibody also aids in exploring developmental disorders linked to ribosomal dysfunction, such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia.
