The von Willebrand factor A domain-containing protein 2 (VWA2), also known as ADAMTS-like protein 3. is encoded by the *VWA2* gene and belongs to the VWA protein family. These proteins are characterized by the presence of von Willebrand factor type A (VWA) domains, which mediate protein-protein interactions and extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesion. VWA2 lacks enzymatic activity but plays a regulatory role in ECM organization, particularly by modulating the function of proteoglycans like aggrecan and versican. It is expressed in various tissues, including the nervous system, cartilage, and developing organs, suggesting involvement in tissue morphogenesis and homeostasis.

VWA2 has garnered attention in cancer research due to its dual role as both a potential tumor suppressor and promoter, depending on context. Studies link its dysregulation to malignancies such as colorectal, breast, and hepatocellular carcinomas, where altered VWA2 expression correlates with metastasis, angiogenesis, or chemoresistance.
