EBI3 (Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3) is a cytokine subunit initially identified for its induction during Epstein-Barr virus infection. It belongs to the IL-12 cytokine family and functions as a regulatory subunit, forming heterodimeric cytokines such as IL-27 (with IL-27p28) and IL-35 (with IL-12α). These cytokines play critical roles in modulating immune responses, particularly in balancing pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory pathways. EBI3-containing cytokines are involved in T-cell differentiation, regulatory T-cell (Treg) function, and immune tolerance, making them key players in autoimmune diseases, cancer immunity, and infectious diseases.

Antibodies targeting EBI3 are essential tools for studying its expression, interaction partners, and functional mechanisms. They enable detection of EBI3 protein levels in tissues or cells via techniques like Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.
