ARTN (Artemin), a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family, plays a critical role in neuronal development, survival, and plasticity. It binds to the GDNF family receptor α3 (GFRα3) and activates RET tyrosine kinase signaling, influencing processes like axon guidance, nociception, and tissue repair. Dysregulation of ARTN has been implicated in pathologies such as neuropathic pain, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancers, where it may promote tumor progression, metastasis, and chemoresistance.

ARTN antibodies are tools designed to target and modulate ARTN activity. These antibodies, including monoclonal and polyclonal variants, are used to study ARTN’s biological functions, block its interaction with GFRα3. or neutralize its downstream signaling. In research, they help elucidate ARTN’s role in neural circuit formation, pain sensitivity, and cancer biology. Therapeutically, ARTN-neutralizing antibodies are explored for conditions like chronic pain syndromes or cancers driven by ARTN overexpression. Conversely, agonistic antibodies may support neuroprotection in degenerative contexts. Challenges include optimizing specificity and delivery, particularly for crossing the blood-brain barrier in neurological applications. Current studies focus on validating ARTN as a biomarker and refining antibody-based strategies for clinical translation.
