AKAP9 anchors protein kinase A (PKA) and other enzymes to specific subcellular locations, regulating processes like cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal organization, and signal transduction. Dysregulation of AKAP9 has been linked to cancers (e.g., breast, lung, thyroid), neurological disorders, and ciliopathies.

AK9 antibodies are primarily used as research tools to study AKAP9's role in disease mechanisms. For example, they help detect AKAP9 expression levels in tissues or assess its interaction with binding partners, such as PDE4D or β-catenin, in pathways like Wnt signaling.
