GOLGA2 antibodies are primarily associated with research on the Golgi apparatus and autoimmune disorders. GOLGA2. also known as Golgin A2 or GM130. is a peripheral membrane protein located on the Golgi stack. It plays a critical role in maintaining Golgi structure, vesicle trafficking, and glycosylation processes. Antibodies targeting GOLGA2 are widely used as markers in immunofluorescence and immunoblotting to visualize the Golgi complex in cellular studies.

In clinical contexts, GOLGA2 autoantibodies have been identified in certain autoimmune conditions. Notably, they are detected in a subset of patients with paraneoplastic syndromes, particularly those with cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR) or melanoma-associated retinopathy (MAR). These autoantibodies may arise due to molecular mimicry between tumor antigens and retinal proteins, triggering immune cross-reactivity. Additionally, GOLGA2 antibodies have been reported in rare cases of autoimmune hepatitis and connective tissue disorders, though their pathogenicity remains unclear.

Research also links GOLGA2 dysregulation to cancer progression. Overexpression of GOLGA2 is observed in malignancies like hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer, potentially influencing cell proliferation and metastasis. However, most studies focus on its role as an autoantigen or structural protein rather than a therapeutic target. Continued investigation aims to clarify its diagnostic utility and mechanistic contributions to disease pathways.
