THEM5 (Thioesterase Superfamily Member 5) antibody is a research tool targeting the THEM5 protein, a member of the thioesterase superfamily involved in lipid metabolism. Thioesterases regulate cellular processes by hydrolyzing acyl-CoA thioesters, modulating fatty acid synthesis and degradation. THEM5. localized in mitochondria, plays a role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis by influencing acyl-CoA levels, which are critical for energy production and lipid signaling.

Studies suggest THEM5 is implicated in metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer, where altered lipid metabolism contributes to pathogenesis. For instance, THEM5 dysregulation has been linked to hepatic steatosis, insulin resistance, and tumor progression. The antibody enables detection of THEM5 expression and localization via techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence, aiding investigations into its physiological and pathological roles.
