The TIMM17A antibody is a research tool designed to detect and study the Translocase of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 17A (TIMM17A), a key component of the mitochondrial protein import machinery. TIMM17A is a subunit of the TIM23 complex, which mediates the translocation of presequence-containing proteins from the cytosol into the mitochondrial matrix. This ~17 kDa protein is embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane and plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity of the TIM23 channel, facilitating precursor protein recognition and membrane potential-dependent transport. Dysregulation of TIMM17A has been implicated in mitochondrial dysfunction linked to neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and metabolic diseases.
