KIRREL2 (Kin of IRRE-like 2), also known as NEPH3. is a transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It shares structural homology with other KIRREL family members, featuring extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains, a single-pass transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic tail involved in signaling interactions. Primarily expressed in podocytes of the kidney glomerulus, KIRREL2 plays a critical role in maintaining the filtration barrier by mediating cell-matrix adhesion and slit diaphragm organization. It interacts with nephrin and podocin, key proteins in glomerular function, and contributes to actin cytoskeleton regulation.

Antibodies targeting KIRREL2 are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and function in both physiological and pathological contexts. They are widely used in techniques like immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence to investigate kidney diseases such as nephrotic syndrome, diabetic nephropathy, and congenital glomerulopathies.
