Lactate dehydrogenase C (LDHC), a tissue-specific isoform of the LDH enzyme family, is primarily expressed in the testes and spermatozoa, playing a critical role in anaerobic glycolysis by converting pyruvate to lactate. Unlike its ubiquitously expressed counterparts (LDHA and LDHB), LDHC is encoded by the *LDHC* gene on chromosome 11 and is essential for maintaining energy metabolism in sperm during fertilization. Dysregulation of LDHC has been linked to male infertility, as its absence or dysfunction impairs sperm motility and viability.

LDHC antibodies are immunological tools designed to detect and quantify LDHC protein levels in research and clinical settings. These antibodies are pivotal in studying spermatogenesis, reproductive disorders, and cancer biology, as certain cancers (e.g., germ cell tumors, hepatocellular carcinoma) ectopically express LDHC, suggesting its potential as a biomarker. In fertility studies, LDHC antibodies help assess sperm quality and diagnose idiopathic infertility. Commercially available LDHC antibodies are typically validated for applications like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA. However, cross-reactivity with other LDH isoforms remains a challenge, necessitating careful validation. Recent studies also explore LDHC's role in tumor metabolism, highlighting its relevance in oncology. Overall, LDHC antibodies serve as vital reagents in advancing reproductive medicine and cancer research.
