The HACL1 antibody targets 2-hydroxyacyl-CoA lyase 1 (HACL1), a peroxisomal enzyme critical in the α-oxidation pathway for metabolizing branched-chain fatty acids and 2-hydroxyphytanic acid. HACL1 catalyzes the cleavage of 2-hydroxyacyl-CoA to formyl-CoA and an aldehyde, a step essential for breaking down dietary phytol-derived lipids and certain toxic metabolites. Dysregulation of HACL1 is linked to peroxisomal disorders, such as infantile Refsum disease, characterized by neurological impairment, vision loss, and metabolic dysfunction.

HACL1 antibodies are widely used in research to study protein expression, localization, and function in metabolic pathways. They enable detection via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry, aiding investigations into lipid metabolism, peroxisome biology, and disease mechanisms.
