**Background of CA14 Antibody**

The CA14 antibody targets carbonic anhydrase XIV (CA XIV), a member of the carbonic anhydrase (CA) family, which are zinc-containing metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. CA XIV, encoded by the *CA14* gene, was identified in the early 2000s as a transmembrane isoform expressed in specific tissues, including the kidney, central nervous system, retina, and skeletal muscle. It plays a role in pH regulation, ion transport, and cellular signaling, particularly in tissues requiring rapid acid-base balance.
