The Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Transcription Factor 1 (SREBF1), also known as SREBP-1. is a key regulator of lipid metabolism. It belongs to the SREBP family of transcription factors that control cellular cholesterol and fatty acid homeostasis. SREBF1 exists in two isoforms (SREBP-1a and SREBP-1c) generated by alternative splicing, with SREBP-1c primarily driving fatty acid synthesis by activating genes like *FASN* (fatty acid synthase) and *ACC* (acetyl-CoA carboxylase). It is synthesized as an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-bound precursor and undergoes proteolytic cleavage to release its active nuclear form when cellular sterol levels are low. Dysregulation of SREBF1 is linked to metabolic disorders (e.g., obesity, diabetes, NAFLD) and cancers reliant on lipogenesis.

SREBF1 antibodies are essential tools for detecting and studying this protein in research. These antibodies, often monoclonal or polyclonal, are validated for applications such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), and immunohistochemistry. Specificity is critical, as cross-reactivity with other SREBP family members (e.g., SREBF2) must be ruled out.
