The KRTAP1-1 antibody targets keratin-associated protein 1-1 (KRTAP1-1), a member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) family. These proteins are critical components of hair and nails, interacting with keratin intermediate filaments to form the structural matrix of hair shafts. KRTAP1-1. encoded by the *KRTAP1-1* gene on human chromosome 17q21.2. is a cysteine-rich protein believed to contribute to hair strength and elasticity through disulfide crosslinking. Its expression is predominantly localized to the hair follicle's cortical and cuticle layers during the anagen (growth) phase.

Antibodies against KRTAP1-1 are primarily used in biomedical research to investigate hair biology and disorders. They enable detection of KRTAP1-1 in tissue samples via immunohistochemistry (IHC) or Western blotting, aiding studies on hair follicle development, cycling, and diseases like alopecia or structural hair abnormalities. Some studies suggest KRTAP1-1 polymorphisms may influence hair texture or susceptibility to damage, making these antibodies valuable for genetic association analyses.
