These complexes mediate membrane trafficking, endosomal maturation, and lysosomal targeting by regulating vesicle tethering and fusion. VPS51. along with VPS52. VPS53. and VPS54. forms the GARP complex, which facilitates retrograde transport from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. Dysregulation of VPS51 is linked to cellular processes like autophagy, neurotransmitter release, and receptor recycling, implicating it in neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and lysosomal storage disorders.
