The KLRC2 antibody targets the protein encoded by the *KLRC2* gene, also known as NKG2C (Natural Killer Group 2. member C). This protein is a type II transmembrane receptor predominantly expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and certain cytotoxic T lymphocytes. It forms heterodimers with CD94. creating the CD94/NKG2C receptor complex, which recognizes HLA-E molecules on target cells. HLA-E typically presents peptides derived from other HLA class I molecules, enabling NK cells to monitor cellular health. Activation of the CD94/NKG2C receptor generally transmits inhibitory or activating signals depending on associated adaptor proteins, though NKG2C is primarily linked to activating functions through its interaction with DAP12.

KLRC2 antibodies are essential tools for studying NK cell biology, particularly in viral infections (e.g., cytomegalovirus) and cancer immunology, where NKG2C+ NK cells exhibit adaptive-like features. These antibodies are used in flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and functional assays to characterize NK cell subsets, receptor expression dynamics, and cytotoxic responses. Dysregulation of KLRC2 expression has been implicated in autoimmune disorders, chronic infections, and transplant outcomes, making its antibody valuable for both research and clinical diagnostics. Commercial KLRC2 antibodies are typically validated for specificity against recombinant or endogenous proteins, with applications spanning basic immunology to therapeutic development.
