The RABGGTA antibody is designed to detect the alpha subunit of Rab geranylgeranyltransferase (Rab GGTase), a critical enzyme complex involved in post-translational lipid modification of Rab GTPases. Rab proteins, key regulators of intracellular vesicle trafficking, require geranylgeranylation for membrane association and function. The Rab GGTase complex, composed of RABGGTA (catalytic subunit) and RABGGTB (substrate-binding subunit), facilitates the attachment of geranylgeranyl groups to Rab proteins. This modification is essential for Rab-mediated processes like vesicle formation, transport, and fusion, which underpin cellular secretion, autophagy, and receptor recycling.

RABGGTA antibodies are widely used in research to study Rab protein prenylation, enzyme complex assembly, and their roles in cellular trafficking pathways. They enable detection of RABGGTA expression via techniques such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation. Dysregulation of Rab GGTase activity has been linked to diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, making these antibodies valuable tools for investigating pathological mechanisms or therapeutic targets.

Developed in hosts like rabbits or mice, RABGGTA antibodies are often validated for specificity using knockout cell lines or siRNA-mediated knockdown. Their applications span basic cell biology, cancer research, and studies of membrane dynamics, highlighting their importance in understanding Rab-mediated regulatory networks.
