The SEC11A antibody targets SEC11 homolog A, a critical component of the signal peptidase complex (SPC) in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). SEC11A, a serine protease, plays a key role in protein processing by cleaving N-terminal signal peptides from nascent secretory and membrane proteins during their translocation into the ER. This cleavage is essential for proper protein maturation, trafficking, and secretion. The SPC, comprising subunits like SEC11A, SEC11B (in mammals), and SPCS1-3. ensures accurate signal peptide removal, influencing cellular homeostasis and secretion pathways.

SEC11A antibodies are widely used in research to study protein secretion mechanisms, ER function, and diseases linked to secretory defects, such as certain cancers or genetic disorders. They enable detection of SEC11A expression via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, or immunohistochemistry, helping visualize its subcellular localization and abundance. Studies using these antibodies have elucidated SEC11A's role in adaptive ER expansion under stress and its interaction with other SPC components. Additionally, SEC11A dysregulation has been implicated in pathological conditions, making its antibody a valuable tool for exploring molecular bases of secretion-related diseases and potential therapeutic targets.
