The UGT3A1 antibody is a tool used to study the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 3A1 (UGT3A1) enzyme, a member of the glycosyltransferase family. UGT3A1 catalyzes the transfer of glycosyl groups, particularly utilizing UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) as a sugar donor, distinguishing it from other UGT isoforms that primarily use UDP-glucuronic acid. This enzyme plays a role in conjugating small lipophilic molecules, such as steroids, bile acids, and xenobiotics, enhancing their solubility for excretion. UGT3A1 is expressed in various tissues, including the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, though its expression levels and substrate specificity remain less characterized compared to UGT1 and UGT2 families.
