CD156 antibody targets CD156. a cell surface antigen also known as ADAM8 (A Disintegrin and Metalloproteinase 8). ADAM8 belongs to the ADAM family of transmembrane glycoproteins, characterized by a multidomain structure: a prodomain, metalloproteinase, disintegrin-like, cysteine-rich, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic tail domains. It plays roles in cell adhesion, migration, signaling, and proteolysis. ADAM8 is implicated in inflammatory responses, cancer progression, and neurodegenerative diseases. In cancer, it promotes tumor growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis by modulating extracellular matrix remodeling and cell-cell interactions. In neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, it may influence amyloid-beta peptide generation.

CD156 antibodies are essential tools for detecting ADAM8 expression and distribution in tissues or cells. They are used in research applications such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting to study ADAM8’s biological functions and its association with pathologies. Therapeutic potential is being explored, with some studies targeting ADAM8 to inhibit its proteolytic or adhesive activities in inflammatory diseases or cancer.
