The YRDC antibody targets the YrdC protein, a conserved eukaryotic enzyme implicated in RNA modification and translation regulation. YrdC, also known as C9orf82 or Dph6. is a member of the UPF0114 family and plays a critical role in diphthamide biosynthesis—a post-translational modification on elongation factor 2 (eEF2) essential for ribosomal fidelity during protein synthesis. Dysregulation of diphthamide synthesis is linked to developmental defects, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer progression.

YRDC antibodies are widely used to study the protein's expression, localization, and interaction partners. Immunostaining often reveals YrdC’s nucleolar and cytoplasmic distribution, reflecting its dual roles in ribosome biogenesis and tRNA modification. Research applications include investigating YrdC’s involvement in cellular stress responses, genome stability, and tumorigenesis. For example, YRDC knockdown models show impaired cell proliferation and increased DNA damage sensitivity, underscoring its biological significance.

These antibodies are also employed in clinical contexts to explore YRDC as a potential biomarker in cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma, where overexpression correlates with poor prognosis. Recent studies further link YrdC to antiviral defense mechanisms via tRNA modification-mediated immune signaling.
