The glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase 4 (GPAT4), also known as AGPAT6. is a key enzyme in lipid metabolism that catalyzes the initial acylation step of glycerolipid biosynthesis. It converts glycerol-3-phosphate to lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a critical precursor for triglyceride and phospholipid synthesis. GPAT4 is primarily localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and highly expressed in metabolic tissues such as liver, adipose, and mammary glands. Its activity influences lipid storage, membrane composition, and lipoprotein secretion, making it a focal point in studies of obesity, insulin resistance, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

GPAT4-specific antibodies are essential tools for detecting protein expression, subcellular localization, and enzymatic activity in research. They enable investigations into GPAT4's regulatory roles under physiological and pathological conditions, including its interaction with other lipid-metabolizing enzymes.
