The SAMM50 antibody targets the SAMM50 protein, a key component of the mitochondrial sorting and assembly machinery (SAM) complex. SAMM50. also known as sorting and assembly machinery component 50. plays a critical role in the biogenesis and maintenance of mitochondrial membrane structure by facilitating the assembly of β-barrel proteins into the outer mitochondrial membrane. It interacts with other SAM complex components, such as SAMM35 and MTCH2. to ensure proper protein import and membrane topology. The SAMM50 protein contains a central SAM domain and a N-terminal PB1 domain, which mediate protein-protein interactions essential for its function.

Antibodies against SAMM50 are widely used in research to study mitochondrial dynamics, protein import mechanisms, and mitochondrial-associated pathologies, including neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, and cancer. They enable detection of SAMM50 expression levels via techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation, aiding in the exploration of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease models.
