The mitochondrial ribosomal protein L1 (MRPL1) is a component of the large subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome, essential for mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondria possess their own ribosomes (mitoribosomes) that translate mitochondrial DNA-encoded mRNAs, producing subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) complexes critical for ATP production. MRPL1. encoded by nuclear DNA, is imported into mitochondria and plays a structural or functional role in maintaining mitoribosome integrity and facilitating translation.

MRPL1-specific antibodies are vital tools for studying mitochondrial gene expression, ribosome biogenesis, and respiratory chain defects. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry to assess MRPL1 expression levels, subcellular localization, and interactions. Dysregulation of MRPL1 has been linked to mitochondrial disorders, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases, making these antibodies valuable in both basic and clinical research.
