The CYP27A1 antibody is a crucial tool for studying the enzyme cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily A member 1 (CYP27A1), which plays a pivotal role in cholesterol metabolism and bile acid biosynthesis. CYP27A1 is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the hydroxylation of cholesterol into 27-hydroxycholesterol, a key step in the "acidic" pathway of bile acid synthesis. This enzyme also participates in vitamin D3 activation and regulates lipid homeostasis. Mutations in the CYP27A1 gene are associated with cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX), a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by abnormal cholesterol deposition in tissues, leading to neurological and cardiovascular complications.

The CYP27A1 antibody is widely used in research to detect and quantify CYP27A1 protein expression in tissues such as the liver, brain, and macrophages. It aids in investigating the enzyme's role in metabolic diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, and inflammatory responses.
