The Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) is a multi-subunit E3 ubiquitin ligase essential for cell cycle regulation, particularly during the transition from metaphase to anaphase and exit from mitosis. ANAPC5 (APC5) is one of the core components of the APC/C complex, contributing to its structural integrity and substrate recognition. It plays a critical role in mediating the ubiquitination of key cell cycle regulators, such as securin and cyclin B, targeting them for proteasomal degradation. This process ensures proper chromosome segregation and mitotic progression.

ANAPC5-specific antibodies are widely used in research to study APC/C assembly, function, and localization. They enable the detection of ANAPC5 expression levels in various cell types or tissues, aiding investigations into cell cycle dysregulation linked to diseases like cancer, neurodegeneration, or developmental disorders. For example, reduced ANAPC5 expression has been associated with mitotic defects and genomic instability. These antibodies are also employed in co-immunoprecipitation assays to explore interactions between ANAPC5 and other APC/C subunits or regulatory cofactors (e.g., CDC20 or CDH1).

As a conserved protein across eukaryotes, ANAPC5's functional studies in model organisms further highlight its evolutionary importance. Research using ANAPC5 antibodies continues to unravel its role beyond mitosis, including potential involvement in cellular stress responses and apoptosis.
