AHSG (Alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein), also known as Fetuin-A, is a multifunctional glycoprotein predominantly synthesized in the liver and secreted into the bloodstream. It plays critical roles in mineral metabolism, inflammation regulation, and insulin signaling. Structurally, AHSG contains two cystatin-like domains, enabling interactions with calcium-phosphate crystals, TGF-β receptors, and other plasma proteins. Its ability to inhibit ectopic calcification by stabilizing colloidal calcium-phosphate particles highlights its importance in preventing vascular and soft tissue mineralization. Additionally, AHSG modulates inflammatory responses by binding to Toll-like receptors and acts as an antagonist of TGF-β signaling, influencing cell differentiation and fibrosis.

AHSG antibodies are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and functional mechanisms in diseases. Elevated or reduced AHSG levels are linked to pathologies such as atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, chronic kidney disease, and cancer metastasis. Researchers employ AHSG-specific polyclonal or monoclonal antibodies in techniques like ELISA, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry to quantify protein levels, assess tissue distribution, or investigate molecular interactions. Clinically, these antibodies aid in diagnosing conditions associated with dysregulated AHSG, including metabolic syndrome or inflammatory disorders. Recent studies also explore AHSG's potential as a therapeutic target, particularly in diseases involving abnormal calcification or TGF-β pathway activation.
