The GREM1 (Gremlin 1) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the GREM1 protein, a member of the cysteine knot superfamily. GREM1 is a secreted glycoprotein best known as a bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist. It binds to BMP ligands, inhibiting their interaction with receptors and thereby modulating BMP signaling pathways critical for embryonic development, tissue homeostasis, and cellular differentiation. Dysregulation of GREM1 has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including cancer, fibrosis, and metabolic disorders. In oncology, elevated GREM1 expression is associated with tumor progression, metastasis, and resistance to therapy in cancers such as colorectal, pancreatic, and breast cancer. Its role in fibrosis involves promoting fibroblast activation and extracellular matrix deposition.
