The ABCC9 antibody targets the protein product of the ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 9 (ABCC9) gene, which encodes sulfonylurea receptor 2 (SUR2), a regulatory subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels. KATP channels, composed of SUR subunits and pore-forming Kir6.x subunits (Kir6.1 or Kir6.2), play critical roles in coupling cellular metabolic status to electrical activity. SUR2 exists in two splice variants, SUR2A (predominantly in cardiac and skeletal muscle) and SUR2B (in smooth muscle and brain), differing in the terminal exon. These channels regulate vascular tone, insulin secretion, and cardioprotection during ischemia. ABCC9 mutations are linked to human diseases, including dilated cardiomyopathy, Cantú syndrome, and epilepsy.
