The PHKG2 (Phosphorylase Kinase Gamma 2) antibody is a tool used to study the gamma-2 regulatory subunit of phosphorylase kinase, an enzyme critical for glycogen metabolism. PHKG2. encoded by the *PHKG2* gene, is part of the phosphorylase kinase complex, which activates glycogen phosphorylase to initiate glycogen breakdown. This complex comprises four subunits (α, β, γ, δ), with the γ-subunit (PHKG2) directly binding ATP to catalyze the phosphorylation and activation of glycogen phosphorylase. PHKG2 is primarily expressed in the liver and testis, suggesting roles beyond glycogenolysis, including potential involvement in sperm maturation or male fertility.

Mutations in *PHKG2* are linked to glycogen storage disease type IX (GSD IX), a rare inherited disorder characterized by hepatomegaly, growth delays, and fasting hypoglycemia due to impaired glycogen breakdown. Research using PHKG2 antibodies focuses on detecting protein expression in tissues, assessing its regulatory mechanisms, and exploring its pathological role in metabolic disorders. These antibodies are typically validated for applications like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence.
