PTGIS antibody targets prostacyclin synthase (PTGIS), a key enzyme in the arachidonic acid metabolic pathway. PTGIS catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostacyclin (PGI2), a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation. This enzyme is predominantly expressed in vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells, playing a critical role in maintaining vascular homeostasis, regulating blood pressure, and counteracting thrombotic processes. Dysregulation of PTGIS activity or expression is linked to cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary hypertension, atherosclerosis, and renal dysfunction.

PTGIS antibodies are widely used in research to investigate the enzyme's expression patterns, cellular localization, and involvement in pathological conditions. They enable detection of PTGIS via techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. Studies utilizing these antibodies have revealed tissue-specific PTGIS distribution and its downregulation in endothelial dysfunction. Commercially available PTGIS antibodies are typically developed in hosts like rabbits or mice, often validated for specificity using knockout controls. Recent applications include exploring PTGIS as a therapeutic target and biomarker in vascular remodeling, offering insights into disease mechanisms and potential treatment strategies.
