The CALCRL (calcitonin receptor-like receptor) antibody is a key tool in studying the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, particularly in relation to its role in modulating various physiological processes. CALCRL primarily functions as a component of heterodimeric receptors by coupling with receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs). For instance, when combined with RAMP1. CALCRL forms the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor, critical in neurotransmission and vascular regulation. Pairing with RAMP2 or RAMP3 creates adrenomedullin receptors, which are involved in cardiovascular homeostasis, angiogenesis, and inflammation.

CALCRL antibodies are widely utilized in research to detect and localize the receptor in tissues or cell lines, aiding in understanding its expression patterns, signaling pathways, and involvement in diseases. These antibodies are essential in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Studies employing CALCRL antibodies have highlighted its relevance in conditions such as migraine (via CGRP receptor dysfunction), hypertension, cancer progression, and inflammatory disorders.
