The ARL2 (ADP-ribosylation factor-like 2) antibody is a tool used to study the ARL2 protein, a member of the ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF) family within the Ras superfamily of small GTPases. ARL2 plays critical roles in regulating microtubule dynamics, mitochondrial function, and intracellular trafficking. Unlike canonical ARF proteins, ARL2 does not activate phospholipase D but instead interacts with specific effectors like BART (binding partner of ARL2) to modulate tubulin folding via its association with tubulin-specific chaperone TBCD. It also influences mitochondrial ATP/ADP exchange by binding to the mitochondrial adenine nucleotide transporter ANT1. Dysregulation of ARL2 has been linked to cancers, neurological disorders, and ciliopathies due to its role in cellular homeostasis.

ARL2 antibodies are essential for detecting endogenous ARL2 expression, localization, and post-translational modifications in research applications such as Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation. These antibodies are typically raised in hosts like rabbits or mice, with monoclonal and polyclonal variants available. Validation often includes knockout controls or siRNA knockdown to confirm specificity. Researchers rely on ARL2 antibodies to explore its regulatory mechanisms in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and organelle integrity, making it a valuable reagent in studies of cellular biology and disease pathogenesis.
