SENP7 (Sentrin-specific protease 7) is a member of the SUMO (Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier)-specific protease family, which plays a critical role in regulating SUMOylation, a reversible post-translational modification involved in diverse cellular processes. Unlike other SENP proteases that primarily process SUMO precursors or deconjugate SUMO from substrates, SENP7 exhibits unique substrate specificity, preferentially cleaving poly-SUMO chains and targeting SUMOylated proteins in chromatin-associated complexes. It is implicated in maintaining genomic stability, transcriptional regulation, and heterochromatin organization by interacting with proteins like HP1 (heterochromatin protein 1) and ATRX.

SENP7 antibodies are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and molecular interactions. These antibodies are typically developed using immunogenic peptides or recombinant protein fragments and validated for specificity through techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, or knockout cell line controls.
