FETUB (Fetuin-B) is a liver-secreted glycoprotein belonging to the cystatin superfamily, first identified as a homolog of fetuin-A (alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein). Primarily expressed in hepatocytes, it shares structural similarities with protease inhibitors but exhibits distinct functional roles. FETUB gained attention for its involvement in metabolic regulation and reproductive biology. Studies link it to lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and ovarian follicle development, with elevated levels observed in conditions like NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). Notably, FETUB inhibits metalloproteinases such as ovastacin, playing a critical role in zona pellucida hardening during fertilization.

FETUB antibodies, typically monoclonal or polyclonal, are essential tools for detecting this protein in immunoassays (ELISA, Western blot) and tissue localization studies. Their development accelerated after the discovery of FETUB's dual role in metabolic disorders and reproductive processes.
