The CYP11A1 antibody is a crucial tool for studying the enzyme cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily A member 1 (CYP11A1), also known as cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc). This mitochondrial enzyme catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step in steroid hormone biosynthesis by converting cholesterol to pregnenolone. It is expressed primarily in steroidogenic tissues, including the adrenal glands, gonads, and placenta, making it essential for producing glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and sex hormones.

CYP11A1 antibodies are widely used in research to detect and quantify the enzyme’s expression and localization via techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. These antibodies help investigate disorders linked to steroidogenesis, such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal insufficiency, and reproductive endocrine disorders.
