The TMPRSS7 (Transmembrane Serine Protease 7) antibody is a research tool designed to detect and study the TMPRSS7 protein, a member of the type II transmembrane serine protease (TTSP) family. TMPRSS7. also known as matriptase-2. is encoded by the *TMPRSS6* gene in humans, though nomenclature inconsistencies exist in older literature. This enzyme is characterized by an N-terminal transmembrane domain, a stem region with multiple domains (e.g., LDL receptor class A, scavenger receptor cysteine-rich), and a C-terminal serine protease catalytic domain. It plays a critical role in iron homeostasis by regulating hepcidin expression through cleavage of the iron-regulatory protein hemojuvelin. Dysregulation of TMPRSS7 is linked to iron-refractory iron-deficiency anemia (IRIDA) and certain cancers.

Antibodies targeting TMPRSS7 enable researchers to investigate its expression, localization, and function in tissues and cell lines. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Due to structural similarities among TTSP family members, antibody specificity is a key challenge, requiring rigorous validation using knockout controls. Commercial TMPRSS7 antibodies are typically raised against epitopes in the extracellular or catalytic domains. Recent studies explore its potential as a therapeutic target or biomarker in cancer and metabolic disorders, driving demand for reliable detection tools. However, limited data on TMPRSS7’s full physiological roles highlight the need for further research using these antibodies.
