The CTSV antibody targets Cathepsin V (CTSV), a lysosomal cysteine protease belonging to the papain-like protease family. Also known as Cathepsin L2. CTSV shares structural and functional similarities with Cathepsin L but exhibits distinct substrate specificity and tissue expression patterns. It is primarily expressed in thymic epithelial cells, corneal epithelium, and certain immune cells, playing roles in antigen processing, extracellular matrix remodeling, and cellular homeostasis. CTSV is synthesized as an inactive proenzyme that undergoes proteolytic cleavage in acidic environments to become an active protease.

Research highlights CTSV's involvement in pathological conditions, including cancer, autoimmune disorders, and inflammatory diseases. Overexpression of CTSV has been observed in melanoma, breast cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis, where it contributes to tissue invasion, metastasis, and chronic inflammation by degrading collagen and other structural proteins. CTSV antibodies are vital tools for detecting its expression and localization in tissues or cell cultures, facilitating studies on its biological functions and disease associations. These antibodies are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Additionally, CTSV is explored as a potential therapeutic target, with inhibitors under investigation for modulating its activity in disease contexts.
