Bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7) is a secreted signaling molecule belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily. It plays critical roles in embryonic development, tissue homeostasis, and organogenesis, particularly in skeletal formation, kidney development, and neural patterning. In adults, BMP7 regulates processes like bone remodeling, iron metabolism, and wound healing, while also exhibiting anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Dysregulation of BMP7 is linked to diseases such as chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, and cancer.

BMP7 antibodies are immunodetection tools designed to target specific epitopes of the BMP7 protein. They are widely used in research to study BMP7 expression, localization, and function through techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA. Both monoclonal and polyclonal variants exist, offering varied specificity and sensitivity. Therapeutic applications are under exploration, with BMP7-neutralizing antibodies investigated for conditions involving excessive BMP7 signaling (e.g., certain cancers), while agonist antibodies may aid in tissue repair. Challenges remain in optimizing antibody specificity and delivery for clinical use. As BMP7’s dual role in promoting or inhibiting disease pathways becomes clearer, its antibodies serve as vital reagents for mechanistic studies and potential targeted therapies.
