CIDEC (Cell Death-Inducing DFFA-like Effector C), also known as FSP27 (Fat-Specific Protein 27), is a lipid droplet-associated protein critical in regulating lipid metabolism, adipocyte differentiation, and energy homeostasis. It plays a key role in promoting lipid droplet fusion and lipid storage, particularly in white adipose tissue. Dysregulation of CIDEC has been linked to metabolic disorders, including insulin resistance, obesity, and lipodystrophy, making it a research focus in studying obesity-related pathologies and metabolic syndrome.
