HSPB2. also known as heat shock protein beta-2. is a member of the small heat shock protein (sHSP) family, characterized by its conserved α-crystallin domain. It functions as a molecular chaperone, assisting in protein folding, preventing aggregation under stress conditions, and maintaining cellular homeostasis. HSPB2 is constitutively expressed in various tissues, with higher levels observed in skeletal muscle, heart, and the nervous system. It plays a role in protecting cells from oxidative stress, apoptosis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury.

HSPB2 is closely associated with HSPB1 (HSP27), often forming heterocomplexes to enhance chaperone activity. Studies link HSPB2 to neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., ALS, Alzheimer’s), muscular dystrophies, and cardiovascular disorders. Its dysregulation may contribute to disease progression by disrupting protein quality control or stress response pathways.

HSPB2 antibodies are essential tools for detecting and quantifying HSPB2 expression in research. They are widely used in techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to study its localization, expression patterns, and interactions in disease models. Specific antibodies help distinguish HSPB2 from other sHSPs, aiding investigations into its unique roles in cellular stress mechanisms and therapeutic targeting. Validation for specificity is critical, as cross-reactivity with homologous proteins (e.g., HSPB1) can occur due to structural similarities.
