The pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 2 (PDK2) antibody is a crucial tool for studying the regulation of cellular energy metabolism. PDK2 is a mitochondrial serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates and inactivates the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC), a key enzyme converting pyruvate to acetyl-CoA for the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. By suppressing PDC activity, PDK2 promotes a metabolic shift from glucose oxidation to glycolysis, a mechanism often exploited by cancer cells (Warburg effect) and implicated in metabolic disorders like diabetes.

PDK2 antibodies are widely used in research to detect PDK2 expression, localization, and activity in tissues or cells. They enable techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence, aiding investigations into PDK2's role in diseases. For instance, elevated PDK2 levels correlate with tumor progression, insulin resistance, and hypoxia adaptation. These antibodies also support therapeutic exploration, as PDK2 inhibition is being studied to reactivate mitochondrial glucose oxidation in cancer or metabolic syndromes.
