CLGN (Calmegin) antibody is a tool used to detect Calmegin, a testis-specific chaperone protein belonging to the heat shock protein HSP90 family. Primarily expressed in germ cells during spermatogenesis, Calmegin plays a critical role in male fertility by facilitating proper protein folding, cell adhesion, and meiotic division in developing spermatozoa. It is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and is essential for the formation of the zona pellucida-binding capacity of sperm, a key step in fertilization.

CLGN antibodies are widely utilized in reproductive biology research to study sperm maturation, infertility mechanisms, and germ cell development. Mutations in the CLGN gene have been linked to male infertility in both humans and animal models, making these antibodies valuable for diagnostic and experimental investigations. They are commonly employed in techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to assess protein expression patterns in testicular tissues or sperm cells.
