The SCGB2A2 antibody targets the Secretoglobin Family 2A Member 2 (SCGB2A2), a protein encoded by the SCGB2A2 gene. Secretoglobins are small, secreted proteins involved in immune modulation, inflammation, and tissue repair. SCGB2A2. also known as mammaglobin B, is structurally related to mammaglobin A (SCGB2A1) and is primarily expressed in secretory epithelial cells, particularly in mammary and salivary glands. Its physiological role remains unclear but may include antimicrobial activity or regulation of cellular differentiation.

SCGB2A2 antibodies are primarily used in research and diagnostics to detect the protein’s expression in tissues or biological fluids. In clinical contexts, SCGB2A2 has gained attention as a potential biomarker for breast cancer due to its overexpression in malignant breast tissues. Antibodies against SCGB2A2 enable immunohistochemical staining to distinguish between normal and cancerous cells, aiding in tumor classification and metastatic detection. Additionally, SCGB2A2 antibodies are explored in liquid biopsy applications to identify circulating tumor cells or cell-free DNA-protein complexes.

Studies suggest SCGB2A2 may contribute to tumor progression, though its exact mechanisms are under investigation. The antibody’s specificity and sensitivity make it a valuable tool for both basic research and translational studies aiming to develop targeted therapies or diagnostic assays. However, cross-reactivity with homologous proteins like SCGB2A1 requires careful validation to ensure accurate interpretation in experimental and clinical settings.
