The PRKAR1B antibody is a research tool designed to detect and analyze the protein kinase cAMP-dependent type I regulatory subunit beta (PRKAR1B), a component of the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) complex. PKA, a central mediator of cyclic AMP (cAMP) signaling, regulates diverse cellular processes, including metabolism, gene expression, and cell cycle progression. It consists of two regulatory subunits (R) and two catalytic subunits (C). PRKAR1B is one of four regulatory subunit isoforms (R1α, R1β, R2α, R2β) that determine PKA localization, activation, and substrate specificity.

PRKAR1B shares structural homology with PRKAR1A but exhibits distinct tissue expression patterns, with higher levels observed in brain, testis, and certain endocrine tissues. Its specific roles remain less characterized compared to PRKAR1A, though studies suggest involvement in neuronal functions, hormone secretion, and cancer progression. For example, PRKAR1B overexpression has been linked to tumor growth in some contexts.

Antibodies targeting PRKAR1B enable researchers to investigate its expression, subcellular localization, and interactions via techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation. Specificity validation is critical, as cross-reactivity with PRKAR1A can occur due to sequence similarity.
