Nuclear factor kappa B subunit 2 (NFKB2) is a critical component of the NF-κB transcription factor family, which regulates immune responses, inflammation, cell survival, and development. The NFKB2 gene encodes a precursor protein, p100. that undergoes partial proteasomal processing to generate the mature p52 subunit. This processing is a hallmark of the non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathway, activated by receptors like CD40. BAFF, and lymphotoxin-β. The p52 subunit forms heterodimers with RelB, translocating to the nucleus to control target gene expression. Dysregulation of NFKB2 is linked to immunodeficiency, autoimmune diseases, and cancers.
