The solute carrier family 8 member A2 (SLC8A2), also known as the sodium-calcium exchanger 2 (NCX2), is a transmembrane protein encoded by the SLC8A2 gene. It belongs to the Na⁺/Ca²⁺ exchanger (NCX) family, which regulates intracellular calcium homeostasis by mediating the electrogenic exchange of sodium and calcium ions across cellular membranes. SLC8A2 is predominantly expressed in the brain and skeletal muscle, playing a critical role in calcium signaling pathways essential for neuronal function, muscle contraction, and cellular excitability.
